Desktop application for hyperspectral drill-core processing, visualisation, and analysis.
Part 1 CoreSpecViewer User Guide
• What is CoreSpecViewer?
• …and what it is not!
• Loading uncorrected data
CoreSpecViewer is a modular PyQt5 application designed for the full hyperspectral core‑scanning workflow — from Raw data to reflectance processing, masking, feature extraction, correlation mapping, thumbnail generation, and hole‑level review.
The system is designed for geoscientists and hyperspectral imaging specialists, with an emphasis on clarity, reproducibility, and modularity.
Geological Survey Ireland (GSI) operate a multi-instrument core scanning system. The system consists of a Short Wavelength Infra-Red (SWIR) camera, a Medium Wavelength Infra-Red (MWIR) camera and a very high resolution RGB camera.
To date the GSI have scanned approximately 1090 drillholes. This has produced over 7Tb of data. This data is freely available, but due to the size of the files please email gsi.corestoreATdecc.gov.ie to facilitate delivery.
GSI are open to collaboration using either the scanner or the data with any of our stakeholders.
To open, study and evaluate the raw data outputs from the core-scanning system, CoreSpecViewer, an open-source software solution has been developed with the support of GSI.
