Transforming Fear and Negative Emotions
by Lama Gelongma Zangmo
Wednesday 12th February 2020 6:30pm at The Buddhist Society
How do we work with painful, negative emotions, such as anger, jealousy, attachment and fear? The negative emotions are experienced as negative due to ego clinging and selfishness. If experienced directly, they are just energy, which we need as part of life and living. They are not bad in themselves, but with neurosis they are painful and cause harm both to oneself and to our surroundings.
When transformed they become like energy needed for growth, like manure in the field which makes the soil rich and fertile. In poor soil nothing grows, but when the negative emotions are transformed, the positive qualities of kindness, compassion, empathy and joy can grow.
Lama Gelongma Zangmo is the Director of the Kagyu Samye Dzong London centre and is the resident teacher. She entered the Dharma in 1977 in Kagyu Samye Ling monastery, Scotland and became a nun in 1985.
