In Panama City Florida, Vanessa Moore was involved in a serious traffic crash and transported to a hospital. Officers told her she was not free to leave. When she attempted to leave the lobby she was placed in handcuffs and arrested for resisting without violence. While in handcuffs she asked for a lawyer — multiple times. She was then taken upstairs to a hospital room. Before the traffic homicide sergeant walked in to speak with her he stopped in the hallway and told the officer on scene he did not have enough for a search warrant for her blood. That conversation was captured on bodycam. The sergeant then walked into the room and told Moore that if she did not consent to a blood draw he would go get a search warrant. The defense argued that was coercion. The state argued it was voluntary consent. The judge has a motion to suppress ruling pending with trial management set for October twenty second and trial scheduled for November second.
