Nothing Compares 2 U by Prince - AfterGlow Chorus

Recorded live from AfterGlow's concert "Purple Reign" honoring the 10-year anniversary of Prince's passing. "It's been seven hours and fifteen days Since you took your love away I go out every night and sleep all day Since you took your love away..." Composed, arranged, and recorded by Prince in July 1984 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, "Nothing Compares 2 U" was originally gifted to his funk and R&B side project, The Family, appearing on their self-titled 1985 debut album. Driven by stark emotional honesty and unforgettable melodic resolution, Prince’s composition captures the profound weight of solitude, longing, and grief with timeless precision. Although initially tucked away as an album track, Prince later reclaimed the song in his live performances—most famously in his soul-stirring 1993 duet with Rosie Gaines—cementing it as one of the most powerful heartbreak ballads in modern music history. Presented here in a choral setting, the piece serves as a deeply moving, reflective focal point within the "Purple Reign" program. Concert location: St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Oakland, CA) Date: April 25, 2026 🎧 Headphones recommended About AfterGlow Chorus AfterGlow is an auditioned chamber choir based in Oakland, CA, dedicated to exceptional musicianship and diverse repertoire.
