How can district heating utilities turn smart meter data into lower return temperatures and more efficient networks?
In this webinar, Horsens Fjernvarme and Kamstrup share practical experience with data-driven optimization, customer engagement, and the next steps towards low-temperature district heating.
Hosted by DBDH, “Turning District Heating Insight into Impact” explores the connection between network insights and action in customers’ heating installations. Drawing on the experience of Horsens, Denmark, the speakers discuss what has delivered results, what takes resources, and why reducing return temperatures requires an ongoing effort.
In this webinar, you’ll learn about:
• Using smart meter data and digital twins to understand network performance.
• Combining technical improvements with targeted customer communication.
• Using incentive tariffs and heating installation checks to encourage better cooling.
• Connecting customers with plumbers to turn insights into practical improvements.
• Preparing for more heat pumps and lower district heating temperatures.
• Exploring demand-side management and buildings’ potential as thermal storage.
Results and lessons from Horsens
Horsens reports a reduction of around 1–2°C in overall return temperature since its collaboration with Kamstrup began. Several initiatives have run in parallel, however, making it difficult to isolate the contribution of each measure. The discussion also looks ahead to demand-side flexibility—and the need to demonstrate its benefits at greater scale.
