In this undergraduate-level lecture, we explore Acid-Base Reactions (neutralization reactions). We break down the various definitions of acids and bases, namely the Arrhenius, Brønsted-Lowry, and Lewis definitions. We analyze strong-strong acid base reactions like the reaction of hydrochloric acid with sodium hydroxide to systematically produce liquid water and an aqueous salt. We practice writing net ionic equations and extend our analysis to weak acids and bases.
This lesson tracks directly with university-level courses, offering step-by-step guidance, visual whiteboard breakdowns, and problem-solving practice to help you succeed in your coursework and exam preparation.
