The Top 30 songs with 5 extras by Linda Ronstadt, Grand Funk Railroad, the Poppy Family, Freda Payne and Five Flights Up from the 1970 singles charts of Billboard, Cash Box and Record World magazines for weeks ending October 7, 14, 21 and 28. Unlike for my books, Ranking the ‘60s and Ranking the ‘70s (with Bill Carroll), in which a weighted ranking system was used, I used a simple reverse ranking system, assigning 1 point to No. 30, 2 points to No. 29, etc. I kept it simple since we’re dealing with four weeks rather than a longer duration, like a year. *1970 Rank given to the three songs leaving the charts is an average of those songs’ year-end rankings from Joel Whitburn, Billboard magazine, Fred Bronson, Bill Carroll and Cash Box magazine.
