In Revelation 17, John sees Babylon portrayed as a woman clothed in splendor, holding a golden cup. Behind her beauty lies a kingdom built on deception, corruption, and opposition to God.
The Lamb Remains explores the seductive promises of a world that offers fulfillment apart from its Creator.
Babylon takes. Jesus gives.
While earthly kingdoms rise and fall, the Lamb remains—Lord of lords and King of kings.
This song is a prayer that we would not merely recognize false promises, but discover that Jesus is more beautiful than anything they offer.
Kingdoms rise. Kingdoms fall. The Lamb remains.
Scripture: Revelation 17:1–18 | Matthew 26:39 | Revelation 17:14
She comes dressed in scarlet,
Purple, gold and pearls.
A golden cup within her hand,
And kings hold the cup and swirl.
Everything about her whispers,
“You can have it all.
You can find the life you’re looking for
Without the One who's ready to give more.”
She has worn a thousand faces,
She has answered many names.
Kingdoms rise and kingdoms fall,
But the promise stays the same:
“Take what pleases your eyes.
Make yourself secure.
Build a life that needs no God.
Come, taste and follow the lure.”
And for a moment even John
Could only stand amazed.
Then heaven said,
“Look again.
Do not be astonished.
Come closer.
See what you are seeing.”
The cup is gold,
But look inside.
The woman shines,
But look beneath.
There is a beast
Carrying all this beauty.
But there is blood
Upon her hands.
Jesus,
teach my eyes to see.
Don’t let the gold fool me.
Don’t let the cup shape my tastes.
Don’t let another kingdom
take the heart that You have graced.
When Babylon looks beautiful,
Let me see what You see.
And when the whole world leans toward her,
Keep my heart
faithful to You.
She does not ask me first
To hate You.
She only asks me
To love something else more.
A little more comfort.
A little more praise.
A little more power.
A little more for myself.
Until the heart You made for You
Has learned another hunger.
Jesus,
before I ever taste it,
Show me what is in the cup.
The beast was,
And is not,
And still the world will wonder
When it rises once again.
Different kingdoms.
Different faces.
Still the ancient lie:
“You can have the world
And never need its Maker.”
But there is something
the beast can never say.
There has never been
an “is not”
with You.
You were.
You are.
You always will be.
Empires breathe
and disappear.
Kings are crowned
and turn to dust.
Babylon rises.
Babylon falls.
But the Lamb remains.
And now I see
two kingdoms.
One consumes the people
who give themselves to it.
One has a King
who gave Himself
for His people.
One lifts a golden cup
and says,
“Drink.”
But You took the bitter cup
and said,
“I will drink this
for them.”
Babylon takes.
Jesus gives.
Babylon promises life
and leaves us empty.
You entered death
and gave us life.
So Jesus,
don’t merely keep me
from Babylon.
Make Yourself
more beautiful to me.
More beautiful than comfort.
More beautiful than wealth.
More beautiful than being admired.
More beautiful than having my own way.
Teach my heart
to want You most.
For they will make war
against the Lamb,
And the Lamb
will overcome them.
Not because You became
another beast.
But because You are
Lord of lords,
King of kings.
And with You stand
Your called,
Your chosen,
Your faithful.
So keep me faithful, Jesus.
When the gold is shining,
keep me faithful.
When the cup is offered,
keep me faithful.
When Babylon tells me
what my heart should want,
Make Yourself
more beautiful to me.
You were.
You are.
You always will be.
Kingdoms rise.
Kingdoms fall.
The Lamb remains.
You are more beautiful
than everything she promised.
More beautiful
than all this world can give.
You gave Yourself
to have my heart—
Jesus,
You can have it all.
You were.
You are.
You always will be.
Lord of lords.
King of kings.
Let every other kingdom fall—
The Lamb remains!
And my heart
belongs to You.
My heart
belongs to You.
Jesus...
My heart
belongs to You.
