HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN (1984): Cast Then & Now — Nobody Was Allowed To Cry At His Funeral

Victor French left instructions through his lawyer. Nobody was to cry at his funeral. Anyone who did would be removed from the room. This cast then and now deep dive into one of classic tv's gentlest series reveals what nobody watching ever knew. French spent twenty years playing killers and villains before Michael Landon fought NBC to cast him in Little House — and years later, in print, French called Landon his angel. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in Ireland while filming a children's cartoon, and died three months after at fifty-four. Seven weeks and one day before his own finale aired. Charlotte Stewart stood beside Landon at that service, where grief was forbidden. She said he grabbed her hand and held on for dear life, and that she had never seen a man fight tears so hard in her life. Two years and sixteen days later, Landon was gone too. Same age. Same number. The whole show only exists because a father sat beside an unconscious daughter and made a promise.
