From the first elevated line of 1902 to the extensions planned for 2040: watch the Berlin U-Bahn grow, line by line, on a real geographic map. Rival cities like Schöneberg and Charlottenburg building their own lines, the 1920s boom, the bombs and floods of 1945, and then 28 years of a divided city: from 1961 West Berlin trains ran under East Berlin without stopping, through dimly lit, guarded ghost stations. The film follows them closing and reopening, the U2 and U1 being cut and joined again, the long reach of the U7 to Spandau and Rudow, the U5 under Unter den Linden in 2020, and ends with the planned extensions to Mexikoplatz, Pankow Kirche, the Märkisches Viertel and BER Airport.
