A New Tripod Arrives | Building the Bathroom by Hand

Tiles, iron, and a new tripod: an iranian nomadic village tour of the Bakhtiari Zagros highlands, where these iran mountain nomads keep building their bathroom by hand. The day picks up with yesterday's trip still being unpacked, tile, cement, and bathroom fittings that had to be hauled home without a car of their own, plus a long-awaited tripod so somebody besides Muqaddar can finally be behind the camera. Grandmother stops by with warm local bread and tea, and there's a soft, funny stretch of morning where Arkan shows off his new shoes and warm clothes, Zahra gets teased about her headscarf, and everyone keeps half an eye on a stray missing cart. Out at the half-built bathroom, Medina and Muqaddar sort tiles and angle irons with help from nephew Ismail, work through a short teary moment with Arkan, and carefully fit everything together piece by piece, until, hours later, the tiles are finally cemented in and it turns out great. As the afternoon winds down, Kazem can be seen working on his own place next door, Arkan measures himself against his bicycle instead of letting anyone measure him, and Mohammad and Majid are thanked and teased in turn for their hand with the mortar before grandmother says her goodbyes and heads back toward Dehzir. By evening it's just dishes, tea, and one more question about when the plumber might finally come back to finish the job.
