The Great National Park Relay - In The Moment

The 2022 Great National Park Virtual 24-hour Relay is happening today! The VRC (Virtual Running Club) organized a run/walk across the country that celebrates our national parks to see how far we can go on National Public Lands Day – together. You can join from wherever you are, in honor of the park of your choice. We selected Acadia National Park, as we are currently in Maine. National Public Lands Day was established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September. National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort. We chose to hike Dunn Falls in Andover Maine. The trail runs along the West Branch of the Ellis River through the conserved wilderness, passing pools, cascades, and the spectacular Upper and Lower Dunn Falls. Returning along the Appalachian Trail for an exciting 1.9-mile loop. AllTrails rates this a moderately challenging route (we agree) and it takes on average an hour to complete. We suggest allowing more time to photograph the falls, mushrooms, and all the magical sights along the trail. This trail is on our “Top Favorite Hikes” list! More about the trail: This trail starts at a small parking lot on the left and the trailhead is across the road. The trailhead declines down to the actual beginning. Take a left on the blue marked Cascade Trail. There are so many wonderful cascades and waterfalls when the water is high!
