On October 6, 2026, Eva Marie Saint, the woman who clung to Cary Grant on Mount Rushmore in North by Northwest, died at 102. In this Halloween season of Psycho and The Birds, we look back at the women Alfred Hitchcock cast as his leading ladies, and at how he chose, dressed and directed them. We follow Joan Fontaine, Teresa Wright, Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Doris Day, Barbara Bel Geddes, Janet Leigh, Suzanne Pleshette and Eva Marie Saint, and then meet the leading ladies still with us in 2026: Brigitte Auber, 101, Shirley MacLaine, 92, Vera Miles, 96, Kim Novak, 93, Tippi Hedren, 96, Diane Baker, 88, and Julie Andrews, 91. Facts in this video were checked against Wikipedia and the news reports, obituaries and references it cites, and against Reuters, NBC and other outlets for 2026 events.
