Shri Kaal Bhairav Mandir
Start your pilgrimage early in the morning at the guardian deity shrine located in Bhairavgarh, about 5–6 km from the town center.
Description: Kaal Bhairav is considered the fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva and the protective ruler (Kotwal) of Ujjain. The temple is world-famous for its unique ritual practice where devotees offer liquor (madya) to the deity, which is accepted by the priest and poured onto the deity's lips.
Timing: Best visited between 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM to avoid long queues.
Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours.
Late Morning: Central Sacred HubShri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple
Head back toward the core city area (approx. 15–20 minutes by auto or cab) to pay respects at Ujjain's central deity shrine.
Description: As one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas, this three-story ancient temple complex forms the heart of Ujjain's spiritual life. You can also explore the surrounding Mahakal Lok corridor, decorated with murals and sculptures detailing Shiva lore.
Timing: 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM.
Duration: 2 to 3 hours (depending on general queue length).
