ICON Week 2026 - ICON roll out in north Wales

In this webinar, Yvonne Hughes, Safeguarding Practice Development Lead at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, shares North Wales’ journey implementing the ICON programme to help parents and carers cope with infant crying and reduce the risk of abusive head trauma. Yvonne explores how the programme was introduced across a large and diverse health board, including securing funding, developing Welsh-language resources and training, embedding the ICON message at key antenatal, maternity and health-visiting touchpoints, and placing information in Parent Held Child Health Records and digital resources. The session also highlights practical approaches to widening the programme’s reach: working with football clubs, supermarkets, primary care, community organisations and dads’ groups; engaging men and grandparents; and planning a future multi-agency rollout and audit.
