The Same Figure Appeared on Three Different Roads Late one October night, a man driving alone through the Virginia and Kentucky mountains made a simple decision — skip the highway construction, take the backroads, save two hours. He had driven that route once before, in daylight. He had a paper map, a mostly charged phone, and no reason to expect anything unusual. What he encountered over the next several hours — on three separate roads, in two separate counties, impossible distances apart — is something he has never been able to fully explain, and something he has never gone back to disprove.
