Inside the HIDDEN BURGER KING at Concord Mall Delaware Hidden behind a wall inside Concord Mall in Wilmington, Delaware is a nearly intact Burger King that has been frozen in time for more than 15 years. In this video, I was given exclusive access to take you inside for what appears to be the first full video tour of the entire abandoned Burger King — from the retro dining room and old-school booths to the employee-only areas, kitchen, walk-in freezer, manager’s office and more. This Burger King opened inside Concord Mall in 1987 and closed in 2009. Rather than being completely gutted after it closed, the restaurant remained remarkably intact behind a false wall, preserving its vintage Burger King design. The space includes wooden booths, pastel blue tables, mauve seating, patterned walls, framed artwork and other details that look straight out of the late 1980s and 1990s. For years, the old restaurant was largely out of public view. There is evidence that the space was known about and even used for storage before its viral discovery, but most Concord Mall shoppers could walk right past without realizing an entire former Burger King was sitting behind the wall. Then, in April 2022, HVAC technician and mall vendor Jonathon Pruitt photographed the preserved restaurant. The photo was later shared on social media in June 2022 and exploded across the internet, attracting more than 100,000 likes within about a day and turning this forgotten Delaware fast-food restaurant into a national viral story. News outlets around the country covered the mysterious Burger King hidden inside the mall. Now you can see far more than the famous photograph. This exclusive tour takes you through the entire space, including the original Burger King dining room, traditional tables and chairs, booths, old menu boards, ordering counter, soda machines, trash stations, restrooms and old-school hand dryers. We also go behind the counter and deep into the employee areas to see the old cooking stations, french fryers, sinks, employee lockers, manager’s office, walk-in refrigerator/freezer areas, the inner workings of the soda machines and the remaining guts of the Burger King kitchen. It is an incredible piece of fast-food history that has survived largely untouched since Burger King closed here in 2009. And its future is now uncertain. In 2026, redevelopment plans were filed with New Castle County that call for demolishing most of Concord Mall and replacing much of the approximately 847,000-square-foot shopping center with a dramatically smaller retail development. The proposal would preserve the Boscov’s and former Sears anchor areas but demolish the enclosed mall between them. The plan is still subject to county review and could change, so demolition is not yet guaranteed — but it means this hidden Burger King could potentially disappear along with the mall that has protected it for decades. 📍 Concord Mall 4737 Concord Pike Wilmington, Delaware 19803 Opened: 1987 Closed: 2009 Hidden Burger King went viral: 2022 Full tour filmed: 2026 This is a rare look inside one of the strangest surviving pieces of American fast-food history — an abandoned Burger King hidden behind a wall in a dying shopping mall.
