A shorter four-day week on the Sturry Link Road project, but there’s still plenty moving across the scheme in Episode 27.
North of the railway, aggregate deliveries barely stop as the future north abutment and approach continue to build upwards. Tippers arrive one after another, reversing down towards the working platform before hundreds of tonnes of material are spread, graded and compacted into the formation.
Over on Platform B, Pier 2 becomes one of the busiest structural areas of the week, with a considerable amount of reinforcement installed for the pile cap that will eventually tie its 12 CFA piles together.
At the southern end, drainage works continue around the new roundabout. The attenuation systems installed over recent weeks are being backfilled, further chambers go into place, and the developing carriageway towards the south abutment starts becoming much easier to identify from the air as Terram and Type 1 go down.
But one of the biggest changes comes on Platform D.
CFA piling resumes at Pier 4 before the rig moves back across to Pier 3 for the final piles on the platform.
Across Piers 3 and 4, 24 CFA piles have now been installed, with some reaching around 29 metres deep — among the deepest foundations on the project.
By the end of the week, the remaining cages are gone, the augers are being washed down, the 42-metre rig is laid down and dismantling gets underway.
It marks the end of another major phase of piling on Platform D — for now.
We also take a closer look at the painstaking work involved in tying reinforcement steel, follow the developing temporary pedestrian route onto Platform B, and even manage to catch a couple of familiar River Stour residents flying through the works. 🦢
And as always, we finish with a low flight through the scheme before pulling right back to see how much this landscape continues to change.
