I Was Wrong About This Ride - Exploring Lake Saimaa

I thought I knew what this day would be like. I was wrong. On day two of my solo motorcycle trip around Lake Saimaa, Finland, I leave Imatra behind and take my Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 onto quiet backroads and gravel roads in southeastern Finland. The plan is simple: explore a few places on the map and see where the day takes me. Along the way, I hike up to an ancient hill fort and squeeze into a cave once used as a place of refuge, follow some surprisingly fun Finnish gravel roads, discover prehistoric rock paintings by the lake — and eventually learn that the hardest part of the day is something I never expected. This trip started as a way to get more comfortable with my new Himalayan before a much bigger motorcycle journey. But somewhere along the way, I started thinking less about the bike and more about the places around me.
