Walk-In Cooler Service Call: Severe Drain Clog Freezes Three Evaporators In this video, we respond to a walk-in cooler with all three evaporators heavily iced and fans slinging water. We cover: • Initial assessment of three evaporators on a single condensing unit with a KE2 Therm controller. • Why we raised the temperature setpoint to 85 °F instead of initiating a standard defrost cycle. • Melting the ice (and why the box temperature can drop slightly while ice is still absorbing heat) • Propping the door open to accelerate melting • Drain-line inspection: continuous flow into a mop sink, missing trap (design error), and a completely clogged main drain • Isolating the manifold so we could pressure-flush the drain to daylight • Cutting out and replacing the severely restricted section of drain line • Reconnecting everything, restoring refrigeration, and reviewing/adjusting the KE2 Therm defrost settings (Time and frequency) Chapters 0:00 – Intro & problem overview 0:30 – Initial inspection of iced evaporators 1:30 – Raising the KE2 Therm setpoint to force continuous defrost/melt 2:45 – Propping the door and observing melt behavior 3:30 – Drain-line evaluation and missing trap 5:00 – Locating and confirming the severe clog 6:15 – Isolating the manifold and pressure-flushing the drains 8:00 – Cutting out the clogged section 9:30 – Reconnecting drains, clearing remaining ice, and restoring refrigeration 10:45 – KE2 Therm defrost settings review and final notes https://www.thermaltran.com #WalkInCooler #Refrigeration #KE2Therm #DrainClog #EvaporatorIcing #HVAC #TechnicianTraining #ServiceCall
