In February 2026 a two-bedroom house on two acres outside Inez, Kentucky, sold for $5,501. In Hazard, a three-bedroom has sat unsold for 194 days at $25,000. In Letcher County, a cabin on almost two acres went for $15,000. And in one county on this list, a year after the 2022 flood, the top elected official said there was almost nowhere left for people to live.
This countdown visits ten eastern Kentucky towns in eight counties, with the median home value for each county, real listings, the history behind each place, and one honest downside for every stop. Maps and charts are original to Hidden Kentucky.
