Chinese refrigerators are cheaper, feature-packed, and appearing in more American kitchens. But can Midea, Hisense, and Haier actually compete with the refrigerator brands Americans have trusted for decades? We investigated seven refrigerator brands using owner-reported problems, independent testing, federal recalls, authorized repair coverage, and replacement-parts availability. We rank Midea, Hisense, KitchenAid, Haier, Frigidaire, Whirlpool, and GE Appliances, then explain why five failed our test and only two earned our recommendation. The biggest surprise was not simply which country won. The best overall result came from an American appliance company owned by a Chinese manufacturer. That tells us the name on the door matters less than the refrigerator’s reliability and whether someone near you can repair it.
