Which Zion? Isaiah 51 names Zion three times, and Jack Scott makes the case that all three — verse 3, verse 11 and verse 16 — are the new Jerusalem, not Sinai.
Part 34 of From Death to Life: Resurrection from the Ground Up stays in Isaiah 51 and then follows Zion out across the prophets. Zion is used well over a hundred times in the Old Testament. Isaiah 51 uses it three times, and two of those are beyond dispute: verse 3 is the Zion whose wilderness is made like Eden, and verse 11 is the Zion the ransomed return to with everlasting joy,
where sorrow and sighing flee away. So what would make verse 16 a different Zion?
Jack's position is that the chapter will not carry that reading. He grants openly, more than once, that the grammar of verse 16 is genuinely disputed among translators. But where grammar is contested, context decides — and the context of Isaiah 51 is righteousness, salvation, comfort, and the end of the fear of death. Sinai delivered none of that. Sinai codified the law. Paul calls that a ministry of death written and engraved on stone.
The rest of the study tests that reading against everything around it:
Isaiah 2 and the mountain of the Lord's house, the nations of Isaiah 13-34
described as heavens and earths, the shaking of Isaiah 24, the feast and the
torn veil of Isaiah 25, and then Joel 2 and 3 — the chapter Jack says set the
dominoes falling for him back in 1983 — answered by Peter at Pentecost with
three words: this is that.
