Isaiah 51 and the old heaven and earth: Jack Scott traces the heaven and earth that is passing away back to Genesis 3 and Eden, not to Sinai. Part 33 of From Death to Life: Resurrection from the Ground Up returns to Isaiah 51 and asks a question now being discussed across fulfilled eschatology and covenant eschatology study groups: when Isaiah 51:16 says "that I may plant the heavens and lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Zion, You are My people," what heaven and earth is being planted — and which one is being removed? Jack answers directly. The old heaven and earth of Isaiah 51:6 is not the Mosaic covenant given at Sinai. It reaches back to Genesis 1-3 — to Eden, to Adam's covenant separation from God, to the death introduced there. Sinai is a real and necessary part of that old order, but it enters the story long after the problem does. Romans 5 says the law was added that the offense might abound; the offense itself begins in Genesis 3.
