Gartang Gali | Walking on the Edge of the Himalayas
Imagine walking along a narrow wooden trail carved into a massive Himalayan cliff, with a deep valley and the Jadh Ganga River flowing far below.
In this vlog, I ride from Harshil to Gartang Gali, one of the most incredible historic trails in Uttarakhand.
Built around 150 years ago, this 136-metre-long wooden walkway is fixed along a steep rock face at an altitude of around 11,000 feet. On one side is the towering mountain, and on the other is a dramatic drop towards the Jadh Ganga River below.
This was once an important India–Tibet trade route, where traders travelled through these difficult Himalayan mountains carrying goods across the border region.
After the 1962 war, the route remained closed for decades. It was later restored and reopened to tourists in 2021.
Today, Gartang Gali is not just a historic place — it is an experience of height, history, adventure and raw Himalayan beauty.
Come with me from Harshil to Gartang Gali and see what this incredible cliffside trail actually looks like from the ground.
