The battle is over.
The adversary is gone.
And for the first time since this story began, everything is quiet.
“The Conversation” is the fifth and final song in a Christian musical story about waiting on God, temptation, spiritual warfare, agency, and learning to trust Christ when His answers don't come when—or how—we expect them to.
The story began with a prayer.
In “Author of Time,” a lonely soul cried out to God after years of waiting. He couldn't understand why the answer he desperately wanted hadn't come, but he made a choice:
“Master of time,
My life is Yours to write.
I may not understand this hour,
But I will trust You through the night.”
That trust was tested.
A false angel offered him the answer he wanted.
Satan attacked the wounds he couldn't heal.
The protagonist tried to fight alone until, finally on his knees, he realized where his strength actually came from.
And when he called the name of Jesus Christ, he discovered that he had never truly been alone.
Now Satan is gone.
And the protagonist can finally ask the questions that have followed him through the entire story:
Did You hear me?
Where were You when I was waiting?
Why didn't You stop him?
How much longer do I have to wait?
Christ doesn't give him every answer he wants.
He doesn't give him a date.
He doesn't immediately give him the person he's been praying for.
Instead, He reminds him of the hourglass he surrendered at the beginning:
“You asked Me for the hourglass,
And when its sands would fall.
But faith was never knowing when.
It's trusting through it all.”
His circumstances haven't changed.
He's still waiting.
But something inside him has.
And for tonight, that's enough.
