When a mission goes wrong and sends her crashing back to Earth, Carol begins uncovering pieces of a past she doesn’t remember. Set in the 1990s, the film brings Carol into contact with a younger Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, as the two investigate the Skrull threat and the mystery behind Carol’s missing memories. Along the way, Carol discovers that her life on Earth, her friendship with Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch, and the work of Dr. Wendy Lawson, played by Annette Bening, are all connected to the source of her powers. Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with music by Pinar Toprak, Captain Marvel blends cosmic action, mystery, and 90s buddy-movie energy as Carol learns the truth about the Kree, the Skrulls, and herself. The film also features Jude Law as Yon-Rogg, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Lee Pace as Ronan, and Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson. As Carol starts to remember who she really is, she realizes that the people controlling her have been limiting her power and shaping her identity for their own purposes. Her journey becomes one of self-discovery, strength, and reclaiming the truth of her past, ultimately turning her into one of the most powerful heroes in the MCU.
