I've been following Wade Farms' move to 15-inch corn for seven years, going back to when they first started testing narrow rows against conventional 30-inch corn. I've been fortunate to follow the project, see the equipment changes, and watch the system evolve along the way.
For this visit, I joined Jacob Wade of Wade Farms near McLean, Illinois, in the cab of their new Case IH AF10 combine during the 2026 corn harvest.
We covered a lot.
Jacob talks about what they've learned from years of comparing 15-inch vs. 30-inch row spacing, why they've continued with narrow-row corn and soybeans, and what it takes from an equipment and management standpoint to make the system work.
We also get into the new AF10, narrow-row corn heads, combine performance, automation, crop conditions, yields, and how equipment has changed during the seven years I've been following this project.
This is what makes the Wade Farms story interesting to me. Fifteen-inch corn isn't a one-year experiment for them. They've tested it, compared it, adapted their equipment and continued refining the system over multiple seasons.
Now we're riding through the field seven years later in a new generation of harvesting equipment and talking about what they've learned along the way.
