Europe and US: OECD average annual wages. Russia: Rosstat average monthly accrued wage ×12. China: NBS average wage in urban non-private units. National currencies converted at annual average exchange rates. Gross, before tax. Russia and China use national definitions, not fully comparable with OECD. Official sources: • OECD: Average annual wages: https://www.oecd.org/en/data/indicato... • Rosstat: wages: https://rosstat.gov.ru/labor_market_e... • National Bureau of Statistics of China: https://www.stats.gov.cn/english/ • World Bank: official exchange rates (PA.NUS.FCRF): https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/... How to read this chart: • Wages are gross (before tax) annual averages per full-time worker, in each country's currency, converted to US dollars at that year's average exchange rate. • Exchange-rate swings move the dollar values: a weak dollar makes European wages look higher, a strong dollar lower. • Russia: Rosstat average monthly wage × 12. China: average wage in urban non-private units (state and collective employers), which is higher than the private-sector average. • Values are not adjusted for inflation or for differences in living costs between countries. • Between official data points the bars move smoothly (interpolated); the year counter only changes when the next official figure is reached. ⚖️ Our approach: every number in this video comes from the sources above.
