DevFest 2026 Ahlen | James Gatt – I Put Android in Charge of My Fish Tank (What Could Go Wrong?)

Keeping aquatic life alive is high-stakes—what happens when you entrust the life support system to native Android and Edge AI? In this session from DevFest 2026 Ahlen Online, James Gatt (University of Malta) walks through an end-to-end smart aquarium automation architecture. Discover how raw hardware sensors connect over MQTT and Firebase, how Jetpack Compose Canvas powers an interactive 2D digital twin, and how on-device Edge AI—computer vision for fish identification and a compact Gemma 3 LLM running on Google LiteRT-LM—manages real-time telemetry and water toxicity analysis. 📌 Event: DevFest 2026 Ahlen (Online) 🏛️ Hosted by: GDG Ahlen (Google Developer Group Ahlen) 🔗 GDG Ahlen Community: https://gdg.community.dev/gdg-ahlen/ #DevFest #DevFest2026 #GDGAhlen #AndroidDev #EdgeAI #JetpackCompose #LiteRT #Gemma #IoT #GoogleDeveloperGroups
