Surfside Condo Collapse: It Started 3 Weeks Before Anyone Knew

On June 24, 2021, part of Champlain Towers South — a 12-story condominium on the beach in Surfside, Florida — collapsed in the middle of the night. 98 people died. For five years, people argued about why. In June 2026, federal investigators at NIST (the National Institute of Standards and Technology) released their technical findings. The collapse didn't start that night. It started about three weeks earlier, under the pool deck, where no one could see it. This documentary follows the whole chain, link by link: a design that in places provided less than half the strength the building code required, construction that didn't match the drawings, weight added on top, forty years of salt water, a 2018 engineering report that described the damage as an expensive repair, years of arguments about money — and three weeks of warning signs that looked like ordinary problems.
