A new version of the Atari to Amiga conversion of the legendary game "Blue Max" by Bob Polin.
Bob made the source code of Blue Max public around 10 years ago but it is written using the Synapse Assembler and that has a somewhat awkward syntax. But the biggest challenge so far was to accurately emulate the Atari's builtin RNG. Not because it is sophisticated but because it updates every clock cycle of the Atari. So to get the same results I needed to figure out WHEN the game reads the RNG. Luckily the Altari Emulator lets you put events on read of certain memory locations including the RNG. So i could generate logs of exactly when the Atari reads the RNG and advance my RNG emulation accordingly.
It is also quite amazing of how much game logic is actually in the game. There maybe side winds (indicated by a W), enemy sudden turns, chances you get bombed during refuel, chances you crash while flying low to strafe, simply put a lot is going on that may not be so obvious.
Elite gets often cited for its clever use of an pseudo RNG to generate its universe but after dissecting the source of Blue Max it deserve a similar credit, you can actually fly for a very very long time without seeing the same level, it is nearly infinite if you can make it that far.
The game is hard, even though this is still the novice setting (the harder ones are not ported yet) there is still some things missing (most of the sounds, options, increasing difficulty) and so on but you can actually make it to the city level.

So there is still some work left to do and then I'll do an Amiga enchanced version :-)
