Yom Kippur this year was from sundown on Sunday until nightfall on Monday, just two days ago. It is the holiest day of the year in Judaism and is also known as the Day of Atonement. It was the one day of the year when one man, the High Priest, could safely enter the Holy of Holies to make a sacrifice of atonement on behalf of the people. It was designed to atone, or make "at one", the people and God. The sacrificed blood of bulls and goats was sprinkled on the cover of the Ark of the Covenant, also known as the Mercy Seat, where the Lord’s presence was found. The sacrifice of atonement changed what would otherwise have been a scene of awful Judgment to one filled with Mercy. But countless multitudes of animals in the Old Testament and beyond had to be slaughtered - over & over & over again - to cover sin; only temporarily. Thankfully a Permanent solution was coming! The Apostle Paul declared (Romans 3:25), "God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood — to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished." Thankfully Jesus is our Sacrifice of Atonement. His precious blood paid the complete and final price for sin. Want to learn more? Let's study it together. Website: https://www.honoluluag.org/.
