One of the most common questions families ask when preparing for the NSW Selective High School Placement Test is how many words students should actually write in the Writing section. While it seems like a simple question, there is no official word count that guarantees a high score. In reality, the quality and development of the response, how well it addresses the prompt, and whether it demonstrates the skills being assessed matter far more than simply reaching a particular number of words. This video explains how much students should realistically aim to write in the Selective Writing Test. It covers why very short responses can struggle to demonstrate developed ideas, clear organisation and varied language, how the length of a response can differ depending on the text type, and why writing more is not necessarily better if it comes at the expense of accuracy and clarity. It also looks at how students can manage the 30-minute writing period more effectively, including planning, developing the body of the response and leaving enough time to complete and check their work. The video also draws on data from our Selective Horizon program, where around 250 students completed weekly writing tasks under timed conditions. This provides a useful benchmark for the length of different response types, while also showing why students shouldn't simply try to reach a particular word count. 👉 Full guide, with how the writing score is assessed in Selective: https://www.bingsacademy.com/guides/s... 👉Selective Horizon Waitlist for Signups: https://www.bingsacademy.com/selectiv...
