Five Fantasies for Iberian Organ - Original composition (with score)

Francesc Teixidó Ponce Five Fantasies for Iberian organ 0:00 Toccata 3:16 Dialogue 5:52 Echo 8:45 Aria 10:51 Finale From the 19th century onwards, German-style organs with two or more manuals and a pedalboard spanning over two octaves became widespread. Until then, however, many European organs had only one manual, and their pedalboards rarely exceeded one octave. In the Iberian Peninsula, the organ developed unique characteristics: while Catalan organs often feature multiple manuals, Spanish and Portuguese organs usually have a single manual with divided registers (bass and treble) and a button-style pedalboard with a diatonic octave (C, D, E, F, G, A, B-flat). Despite these limitations, historical Iberian organs boast a rich variety of registers, including foundation stops, mixtures, reeds, and the famous 'batalla' (horizontal reed pipes placed outside the organ case). I took on the challenge of writing this composition tailored to the technical possibilities of these historic instruments. As with many of my pieces, I use octatonic scales to bring a modern language to the work, while still retaining a certain Baroque spirit.
