How to PROTECT Your Iman Before It’s Too Late || Ustadh Muhammad Tim Humble . "You look at yourself. You look at what is there. And then you blame yourself for where you are falling short. And you correct where you are falling short." This is Muhasabah – self-accountability. And according to Ibn al-Qayyim, it is not just recommended, not just from the completion of your good deeds – it is Wajib. It is obligatory upon every Muslim to take their soul to account. In this powerful and practical lecture, Ustadh Muhammad Tim Humble explains the Quranic command of self-accountability, drawing from Surah Al-Hashr: "O you who believe, fear Allah. And let every soul look at what it has put forward for tomorrow." He shows how the Salaf – the Sahaba and the Tabi'in – would constantly question their souls, before and after every action. He then breaks down the practical steps of Muhasabah: checking your obligations, your haram, your remembrance, your speech, and your movements. He also explains the dangers of neglecting self-accountability and the benefits of making it a daily habit. In this video, you will learn: The Obligation of Muhasabah: Ibn al-Qayyim said it is Wajib to take yourself to account. Allah commands us to look at what we have put forward for tomorrow. The Two Types of Muhasabah: 1. Before the Action: Ask yourself: Why am I doing this? Is it for Allah? Is it following the Sunnah? 2. After the Action: Ask yourself: What did I do? Was it for Allah? How did I do it? The Way of the Sahaba: Al-Hasan al-Basri said: "You will never see a believer except that he is asking himself – what did I want with this statement? Why did I eat that? Why did I say those things to myself?" They even took account of their thoughts. The Danger of Neglecting Muhasabah: If you don't take yourself to account, Allah will. And it will be much harder on that Day. The one who neglects it will find sinning easy and will find it hard to leave. The Process of Muhasabah (Ibn al-Qayyim's Guide): 1- Start with the Faraid (obligatory deeds) – if you fell short, correct it. 2- Then look at the haram – if you committed a sin, repent and do good deeds to wipe it out. 3- Then look at what you forgot – the times you were heedless of Allah. 4- Then ask about your words, your steps, your hands, your ears – why did you do it? How did you do it? The Benefits of Muhasabah: You know your own flaws. You realize Allah's blessings and grace upon you. You rush to make Tawbah. You develop humility – you stop seeing yourself as pious. You want to purify your soul and do good deeds. The Story of Umar (RA): "Take yourself to account before you are taken to account. And weigh yourselves before you are weighed." If you have a habit of taking yourself to account, the presentation of your deeds will be easy for you. This lecture is a wake-up call. You are a traveler on a journey you can never reverse. Look at what you have put forward for tomorrow. And start taking yourself to account – today.
