This video is meant for everyone learning or wanting to learn (rather acquire) Afrikaans as an additional language.
This inspiring video shows why Afrikaans is best acquired through immersion, interaction, and meaningful communication in AFRIKAANS ONLY. Too many learners who take Afrikaans as a First Additional Language never learn to speak Afrikaans.
Why? In class, Afrikaans is translated, explained, learners hear little Afrikaans, are passive in class, and their fear of making mistakes increases.
Scores of YouTube channels are guilty of the very same thing. Imagine: “How to do Direkte Rede in Afrikaans”, but everything is explained in English. The funny thing is: The only difference between "Direkte Rede" and "Direct Speech" is this: English has a comma after the reporting verb, and Afrikaans has a colon. The pattern is exactly the same.
Moreover, learners watch English YouTube videos explaining how to do the next day’s "Paper 2 of Afrikaans Eerste Addisionele Taal". But they sit "Afrikaans Vraestel 2" IN AFRIKAANS the next day. Explaining Afrikaans in English is unworkable and counterproductive.
Students I had to help, could not spell in Afrikaans, not by grade 8, some not even by grade 11. All language courses I have done (German, Spanish, Classical Greek, and Hebrew; languages other than English and Afrikaans) feature the alphabet by lesson 2.
THEREFORE, discover practical strategies in this course that work; not only for Afrikaans, but for all languages you may want to ACQUIRE.
Language is acquired through listening, speaking, and interaction — not endless translation.
Watch how learners gain confidence, improve understanding, and begin using Afrikaans naturally and proudly.
