How can you use ChatGPT to analyze a screenplay without asking AI to write it for you?
Before I start the first draft of Gravity, I run my mini-script through a custom ChatGPT project built entirely around my own screenwriting architecture: the Danger Ladder, character maps, thematic questions, worldviews, strategies, and the structural standards I use on this channel.
This isn’t generative AI. I don’t ask it to rewrite scenes, invent beats, or fix the story. I use it strictly as a diagnostic tool—a second set of eyes designed to tell me whether the structure I think I’ve built is actually on the page.
But I also don’t trust the first answer.
After getting the initial analysis, I force ChatGPT to rerun the coverage with an overly critical eye, compare the positive and negative reads, identify where the AI is genuinely finding weaknesses and where it’s simply misreading the material, and then ask the only question that matters:
Is this story ready for me to start writing the first draft?
