Join me on a journey along China’s Yangtze River aboard the Golden No.3 cruise ship. In this video, we explore three incredible highlights: the massive Three Gorges Dam, the stunning Lesser Three Gorges, and the culturally rich Fengdu Ghost City. The Three Gorges Dam is located on the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei Province, and it is the largest hydropower project in the world. Construction of the dam began in 1994 and was fully completed in 2012. The dam is about 2,300 meters long and 185 meters high, creating a massive reservoir that stretches more than 600 kilometers upstream. One of the main purposes of the Three Gorges Dam is flood control. For thousands of years, the Yangtze River caused devastating floods along its middle and lower reaches. The dam helps regulate water flow and significantly reduces the risk of flooding for millions of people living downstream. Another key function of the dam is power generation. The Three Gorges Dam has 32 main turbines and a total installed capacity of over 22,000 megawatts, providing clean electricity to large parts of central and eastern China. The dam also improves river navigation. With the ship locks and the ship lift, large vessels can now travel much further upstream, turning the Yangtze into an important inland shipping route. However, the project has also been controversial. The construction required the relocation of over one million people and permanently changed the natural landscape of the Three Gorges area.Today, the Three Gorges Dam stands as one of the most ambitious engineering projects in human history — a symbol of China’s rapid development, as well as a reminder of the complex balance between progress, nature, and human life. The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River consist of Qutang Gorge, Wuxia Gorge, and Xiling Gorge. Qutang Gorge is the shortest but most dramatic of the Three Gorges. Wuxia Gorge is known for its misty peaks and the famous Goddess Peak. Xiling Gorge is the longest of the Three Gorges and leads to the Three Gorges Dam. Fengdu Ghost City is located on Ming Mountain along the Yangtze River in Chongqing. For nearly two thousand years, it has been known in Chinese folklore as the “City of Ghosts” — a place that represents the afterlife in traditional Chinese belief. According to legend, the mountain became associated with the underworld during the Eastern Han Dynasty. Over time, temples, statues, and gates were built to depict scenes of judgment, morality, and the journey of the soul after death. As visitors walk through the complex, they pass symbolic structures such as the “Gate of Hell,” the “Bridge of Helplessness,” and various courts where souls are judged based on their actions in life. Unlike Western ideas of hell, Fengdu Ghost City is less about horror and more about moral teaching. The sculptures and stories are designed to remind people to do good, respect others, and live an honest life. Today, Fengdu is both a cultural site and a reflection of traditional Chinese views on life, death, and justice — blending Daoist, Buddhist, and folk beliefs into one unique spiritual landscape. I have divided the content into three chapters based on time, for your convenience. 0:00 - 3:00 Three Gorges Dam 3:40 - 5:20 Lesser Three Gorges 6:55 - 10:57 Fengdu Ghost City Thx for watching, any questions just leave your comments below.
