In 1995 Games Workshop released a small boxed game it did not expect to last. Necromunda was planned as a short-lived side game: two plastic gangs, a pile of walkways and ladders, and a city so tall it pierced the clouds and so rotten at the bottom that nobody ruled it. Players loved its brutal campaigns, where fighters lost eyes, got captured, earned grudges and had their names crossed off the roster for good.
The demand outgrew the plan, the game outlived its own support, and in 2013 the whole Specialist Games range was sold off until the stock ran out. Fans kept it alive with homemade terrain and their own Community Edition rules. Then it came back, bigger than ever, all the way to the new 2026 edition. This is the origin story of Necromunda, from the Confrontation rules in White Dwarf to Outlanders, the Living Rulebook, Necromunda: Underhive, Hired Gun and Necromunda Skirmish.
