Field Grown Larch #1 - First styling

Spring 2024 styling of field grown larch (Larch #1) collected with the Ottawa Bonsai Club. Another video in the series of first styling field grown larch raw material, this time with less straight forward and more challenging tree. Here, we walk though our process of taking raw material toward the first steps of styling, where we aim to turn a vigorously growing tree with no clear direction into a tree with artistic movement and balance. To do this, we detail our thought process behind: selecting primary branches and the main trunk line, selecting buds to create future foliage pads, and thinning out the upper twigs to allow light to penetrate and stimulate canopy growth.
