For generations, dozens of families in Malikwal, Punjab, made cloth and shawls on traditional Khaddi. Today, only Umar Daraz remains.
As demand declined and traditional desi cotton threads became increasingly difficult to find, the other weavers abandoned the craft. Umar Daraz, however, refuses to give up. He says he will continue weaving until his last breath.
But he knows a painful truth: when he is gone, no one from his family or village will carry this centuries-old tradition forward.
This is the story of Pakistan’s vanishing handloom tradition—and the last man keeping it alive.
