Almost three years after their debut, Penance in Blood return with their second full length album dedicated to the ‘spiritual punishment of the self’, as they state it. A dual-energied spectre of ritual subterranea, this album is composed of raw, sepulchral black metal and arcane occulted ambience. A phenomenal trance-inducing pummelling dirge of elevated primitivism, haunted by fleeting fragments of cryptic, decaying samples and spectral vocal passages, II is mind-enveloping, spirit-possessing noise of the highest order.
