Millions of people are joining platforms as delivery riders, drivers and other gig workers, hoping to earn more by working more. But behind the promise of flexibility and independence lies a very different reality. A rider can spend 10–12 hours on the road, deal with traffic, pressure, ratings and algorithms — and still struggle to take home a decent monthly income. So the real question is: Are gig workers really “their own boss”… or has the boss simply become an algorithm?
