Based on the book: Knowledge and the Body-Mind Problem by Karl Popper. Lyrics: [Intro] Ladies and gentlemen, I’m stepping in the room “I am allergic to hot air,” cut the smoke, cut the fume Clock says 3:50, but the thought won’t stop Spiral on the board, from A down to the drop Two kinds of knowing in the pressure and the light One in the bloodstream, one out in the night One says he knew, one says “it is well known” One in the nerves, one in the world we’ve grown [Verse 1] We live in a world of physical bodies, skin and bone But I’m not talking to your body, I’m aiming at your home Somewhere past the heartbeat, somewhere past the hand There’s a second world trembling underneath command Then a third one rises from the labor of the mind Books, scores, bridges, blueprints, arguments aligned Not just the page, not just the notes we frame “World 3” in the echo, autonomous flame You make the tool, then it teaches you your name Like Hamlet not equal to the paper that it’s on Like a truth in the wire when the speaker’s gone [Pre-Chorus] Objective and subjective, passing through the air You can feel a chill, but a theorem’s still there You can see a yellow flash, but the proof survives And the world we build comes back alive [Drop] P1, TT, EE, P2 Trial, error, let the false fall through Knowledge starts from problems, ends with problems too Let the theories die instead of me and you World 1, World 2, World 3 in view Body to mind and the feedback breaking through “Objective knowledge” running like a fuse We don’t just find the world, we make the world we use [Verse 2] Straight line, right angle, circle in the dust You invent the rules, then the structure earns your trust Prime numbers hiding where nobody can steer Unintended consequence, but suddenly they’re here The painter drops a color, steps back from the scene The work talks back, shows him what he didn’t mean Einstein said, “My pencil is cleverer than I” Because the marks on the page can answer back why So the third world isn’t fog, isn’t academic air It pushes on the body, leaves bulldozers there Plans inside the concrete, aims inside the steel What we call abstract can bruise, can heal [Build] From the spider’s web to the beaver’s wall From birdsong warning, “Trespassers,” call by call Exosomatic organs, outside the skin Instead of growing wings, we engineer the wind But no animal built objective doubt No argument to test what the theory’s about Then language split open, and the species changed pace A descriptive fire took hold of the race [Verse 3] First came the cry, then the sign, then the tale Then the lie, then the question, then the cross-exam trail Expressive, communicative, lower in the chain Then descriptive thunder rolled in like rain Then argumentative, the critical light Now a claim could be false, now a fact had to fight “Don’t believe it,” now the signal gets screened Truth’s not sincerity, truth’s what the statement means Story-telling opened impossible doors Myths for the storm and the king on the floor “The king died because Zeus hit him with his thunderbolt” When the world wouldn’t answer, imagination took hold And the child, and the tribe, and the self in the word Built a world where a silent thought could still be heard [Drop] P1, TT, EE, P2 Mutation, behavior, a brand-new route breaks through New aims first, then skills, then the body follows through Behavior is the spearhead cutting something new World 1, World 2, World 3 in view Language in the blood with a wider field to move We can plug into the third, let another future choose We don’t just know the world, we are changed by what we prove [Bridge] Now the crisis hits: is mind a ghost, a spark, a trick? Just noise in the nerves, just chemistry and clicks? “The bodily states exist anyway; why add the others?” But who are you convincing if there are no sisters, no brothers? No one to understand, no one to intend No hand for the argument, no reason to defend So I won’t call the mind an epiphenomenal stain When consciousness evolved to widen the animal brain Higher control, trying futures before the leap A shadow of motion in the body’s hidden deep Fear, hunger, pleasure, advance, retreat Imagination in the muscle before the feet Then the self arrives, anchored in a world of speech Past and future in reach Not a blank slate, not a solitary throne The self learns itself by seeing from outside its own [Verse 4] So what is rational? Not a crown, not a birthright Just a critical attitude, a difficult light Readiness to learn from the cuts we find Readiness to search for the prejudice in mind No final foundation, no framework sealed No prison too perfect to keep us from the field We are trapped for a moment, but not forever bound We can criticize the map, redraw the ground
