After a long drive across Florida, I arrived on Sanibel Island just in time to enjoy the beautiful Gulf Coast scenery as the sun began to set. First lit in 1884, Sanibel Island Lighthouse is a 98-foot cast-iron skeleton tower that continues to serve as an active aid to navigation. Unlike many of the lighthouses I've visited on this road trip, this one isn't open for climbing. In September 2022, Hurricane Ian devastated Sanibel Island, severely damaging the lighthouse station. Despite the damage, the tower remained standing. Join me as we explore this historic lighthouse, its remarkable survival, and the beautiful setting that makes it one of Sanibel Island's most recognizable landmarks. Have you visited Sanibel Island Lighthouse? I'd love to hear about your experience in the comments!
