Homesick is the fifth studio album by the Italian band Shores of Null (from Rome), released on October 16, 2026, via the label Dusktone, and available on vinyl, CD, and digital formats. The record is a work of melodic death/doom metal, characterized by strong gothic atmospheres and elements of atmospheric black metal. The sound is more mature, focused, and intimate than that of their previous releases—*Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)* (2020) and The Loss of Beauty (2023)—featuring a more pronounced gothic touch, refined structures, detailed arrangements, and a dynamic interplay between heavy, crushing passages and captivating, memorable melodies. Reviews have cited influences such as Paradise Lost, Amorphis, Swallow the Sun, and Katatonia, among others. Davide Straccione’s vocals are primarily clean—evocative of Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost) yet possessing a distinct identity of their own—interspersed with growls and screams. The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono at Bloom Recording Studios, following an exhaustive pre-production process. The album is intended to be experienced as a cohesive whole, rather than as a collection of isolated tracks. It explores longing, loss, anger, vulnerability, and the search for belonging. At its core lies the ambiguous concept of "home"—a place of comfort and belonging, but also one of fear, pain, and memories from which one can never fully escape. Recurring themes include nostalgia, absence, trauma, mortality, acceptance of the past, cycles (tides, seasons, memories), and the contradiction inherent in homesickness—the desire to return to the familiar, even while knowing it may be the very source of one's pain. Recent reviews (published around the time of its release) highlight the album's emotional consistency, dense atmosphere, high-quality melodies, and the band's evolution, with generally positive scores (e.g., 7/10, 3.5/5, 8/10). In short, it is a contemplative, impactful record that strikes a natural balance between heaviness and melody; it is recommended for fans of melodic/gothic doom. Available at dusktone.org and via the Dusktone Bandcamp page.
