We’re two families building one life together on 20 acres in Northwest Montana — and our first big goal is to build two off-grid cottages, one for each family. In this episode, we start forming the foundations using the Mono Slab EZ Form system. We pick up the forms, lay everything out, figure out how they interlock, make our own water level, and start getting everything set to the correct elevation. And, like most things we’ve done out here, we learn a few things the hard way — including catching a mistake that needed to be fixed before we could move forward. But building is only part of life on the land. There’s food, family, a hay ride without any hay, cows wandering through the property, a Facebook Marketplace window pickup, and a little time to actually enjoy the place we’re working so hard to build.
