Scientists Found the Most Irish DNA in Europe — And It Isn't Ireland Irish people have been crossing water for a very long time. Long before the famine ships, long before Liverpool and Glasgow, Gaelic speakers were moving out of Ireland into Scotland, into the Isle of Man, into Wales, and they were being carried further still by Norse raiders who took captives home to Iceland, the Faroes and Norway.
