The Minutemen can defend a settlement. But can they help feed one? At Tenpines Bluff, the newly established Minutemen Agricultural Division — North is taking a different approach to rebuilding the Commonwealth. Researchers and farmers are experimenting with crop growth, preserving seed stocks, studying crop specimens and diseases, and developing agricultural techniques that could eventually be shared across northern settlements. Incoming samples are recorded and processed before reaching the laboratory. Seed stocks and emergency planting reserves are stored separately, while controlled growing areas allow researchers to test new methods without risking an entire settlement's harvest. The Division also has another job: teaching. Settlers from other communities can travel to Tenpines to learn improved growing techniques, recognise agricultural problems and take that knowledge back home. New Agricultural Division personnel can also be trained here before being sent into the Commonwealth. Growing areas have deliberately been left partially open in places, allowing natural pollinators access to crops while still providing protection from the worst of the Commonwealth environment. Agricultural surveyors can eventually travel to other settlements, inspect struggling farms, collect specimens and bring problems back to Tenpines for further study. And successful research here could have consequences far beyond the facility itself. Better farming means more reliable harvests. Reliable harvests can create surplus. And businesses such as Northstar Cold Storage can move that food between settlements. The Minutemen have become increasingly good at protecting settlements. Agricultural Division North is asking what happens after the shooting stops. Because walls can protect a harvest. They can't grow the next one.
